Mapex has long successfully combined different wood materials to manufacture drums with exceptional sound. They have now advanced this methodology with the Velvetone, which features a new formula of maple and walnut drums. The rich, dark walnut plies, 3.4 mm thick, act as a buffer between the warm inner and outer maple plies. The result is a drum set that can whisper when needed but can also bark at any moment. To ensure that the Velvetone is as visually appealing as it is to the ear, Mapex has finished the drums with an Italian maple veneer with a highly glossy "Butter Burst" lacquer. The Velvetone is exclusively for the player who can distinguish between simply good and truly extraordinary.
